WOMEN IN STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Women are underrepresented in STEM both as educators and practitioners. In its position as a technology business servicing the construction and engineering sector, Symetri is impacted by this: we want not just to recruit the best women in the industry but also add to the pool of talent available.

As part of its strategy to increase the number of women working in engineering, to encourage diversity and inclusion across the sector, and to recruit the best to work with us, Symetri will be offering three scholarships to female students at the University of Hertfordshire, for undergraduates starting their courses in September 2025.

The scholarships will be worth £9,000 each (£3,000 for each year of a three-year course) for three students on the BA Architecture, BEng Civil Engineering and BEng Mechanical Engineering programmes. They aim to support the scholars to succeed academically and provide them with industry connections and a pathway to employment.

We’re delighted to partner with the University of Hertfordshire to create these scholarships. Local to Symeti’s Cuffley office, the university’s roots lie in engineering, as it first opened to train workers at the nearby De Havilland aircraft factories. It has recently built on these foundations to open Spectra, the brand-new home of the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science, as well as a new Architecture Studio within the School of Creative Arts.
